What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)?

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a special treatment that we provide here at SMaRT Health & Wellness. HBOT is a non-invasive therapy where you breathe in pure, clean oxygen in a special room or chamber that has more pressure than the standard air around us.

Our facility uses a state-of-the-art Sechrist hyperbaric chamber, the world leader in hyperbaric technology and medicine. This comfortable, spacious chamber even includes a fully integrated entertainment system, allowing you to watch television, listen to music, or enjoy movies during your HBOT session. Plus, it’s the only monoplace (single-user) hyperbaric system with two emergency vent modes, ensuring your safety at all times.

HBOT can have several beneficial effects, including:

  • Health and Wellness: HBOT supports cellular repair and regeneration, aids in the healing of damaged tissues, promotes collagen production, and reduces inflammation and oxidative stress. It can potentially manage chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, non-healing wounds, and certain autoimmune disorders, enhancing overall well-being.
  • Orthopedic condition, Injury, or Surgery Recovery: HBOT can speed up healing from tendinitis, broken bone, and tendon tears. It can also optimize recovery from orthopedic surgery, like rotator cuff repair and joint reconstruction.
  • Athletes and Fitness Training: HBOT can expedite your body’s recovery after a strenuous game or workout, allowing you to return to your favorite activities sooner.
  • Cosmetic Procedures and Plastic Surgery: If you’re undergoing a cosmetic procedure or plastic surgery, HBOT can assist your body in healing faster and more effectively, letting you enjoy your new look sooner.

Our physicians are certified in HBOT, ensuring you receive the highest standard of care. We adhere strictly to safety standards and ensure that all treatments are physician-prescribed and supervised.

Understanding Insurance Coverage for HBOT

Insurance coverage for HBOT can vary depending on your provider and the condition being treated. Medicare and many commercial insurance providers, including Blue Cross, Blue Shield, and Cigna, cover HBOT for specific conditions such as:

  • Decompression sickness
  • Arterial gas embolism
  • Carbon monoxide poisoning
  • Gas gangrene
  • Acute traumatic ischemia (e.g., crush injuries)
  • Compromised skin grafts or flaps
  • Acute peripheral arterial insufficiency
  • Progressive necrotizing infections (necrotizing fasciitis)
  • Chronic refractory osteomyelitis
  • Osteoradionecrosis and soft tissue radionecrosis
  • Diabetic wounds of the lower extremities
  • Idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss

However, insurance coverage varies, and we recommend that you confirm your coverage with your insurance provider.

Moreover, there is a range of off-label conditions that HBOT can potentially benefit, including autism, brain injury, scleroderma, lupus, systemic sclerosis, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, stroke, Lyme disease, fibromyalgia, sports injuries, and post-surgical healing. While these conditions may not be covered by insurance, we at SMaRT Health & Wellness offer cash-pay options for these treatments. We are more than happy to discuss these alternatives with you.

HBOT at SMaRT Health & Wellness offers a promising approach to health and wellness and injury recovery. Trust in the power of oxygen with us and improve your quality of life.
