Sports Medicine

Sports Medicine, also known as sports and exercise medicine (SEM), is a branch of medicine that deals with the treatment and prevention of sports and exercise-related injuries and improving fitness and performance. The main objective of sports medicine is to help individuals engage in sports and exercise in a safe and effective manner to accomplish their training goals.

Dupuytren’s Center of California

Dupuytren’s disease is an abnormal thickening of the fascia, the tissue just beneath the skin of the palm. It often starts with firm lumps in the palm. Gradually, these lumps may grow into firm cords stretching from the palm into the fingers, potentially causing the fingers to bend into the palm. While the cause of Dupuytren’s disease is unknown, it's more common in men over age 40 and in people of Northern European descent.

Elective/Emergency Hand Surgery

Hand surgery is performed to restore the structure and functionality of the fingers, wrist and hand secondary to a traumatic injury, medical condition, severe infection, or birth defect causing pain and/or deformity of the hand. It is performed by trained and certified plastic surgeons. The surgery is done either as an emergency procedure or as an elective procedure depending on the condition and its severity.

Office-Based Procedures

OSS doctors can do some surgeries and procedures in the office (instead of in a surgery facility) because certain ones only require the OSS doctor to use local anesthesia, the SAME local anesthesia that a dentist uses for a dental procedure done in her office.
